  4. Is the All on 4 Plus® Implant Procedure Painful?

Hi, I’m Dr Fong, the founder and principal dentist of Dental House Group.

Last week, one of my oldest friends and patient, Larry from Sunshine, decided to make the change from dentures to dental implants. During our consultation, Larry asked me, “Hey Fong, is the All on 4 Plus® implant procedure painful?”

Any surgery can be scary. So I thought I’ll make a video to answer this great question, just in case you or your loved ones are considering All on 4 Plus®, and have the same concern.

All on 4 Plus® implant is a procedure where a full arch of teeth, or replacement teeth, are secured onto 4 or more dental implants, instead of using an implant for each missing tooth. This is a cost effective way of using implants to replace many or all of your teeth, and some patients use this dental solution instead of dentures.

For those who don’t know, a dental implant is a tiny rod that is placed into the jawbone during a surgery. It is then allowed to heal and then a connector and a dental crown are placed on them. For All on 4 Plus® implant, instead of one crown, a dental arch or bridge is used to replace all the teeth.

The surgery part might sound painful or scary, but it’s not. We put the comfort of our patients first, and do all we can to mitigate pain or discomfort as much as possible. When patients get implants, anesthetic is used to numb the area, while sedation dentistry helps relax the patient and put them into a twilight feeling. Many patients choose general anesthetic, which means they go to sleep and when they wake up, the procedure is done. In most cases, patients do not feel discomfort because of the mixture of sedation and anesthetic.

When the surgery is complete and the anesthesia wears off, there is usually some soreness or discomfort. Over-the-counter medications may be used or we could also prescribe pain medication for some cases. We may also provide instructions to gently rinse your mouth with warm saltwater, but like I said, each patient is different so we will find the best solution for you.

If you choose to use All on 4 Plus® implants and we find that you are a candidate for this treatment, you may receive four or six implants. We may put the abutments on at the same time as the implants, or we might wait and put them on later. Each decision along with the quality of your bone and oral health will determine how many surgeries or procedures you need. The method will be discussed with you and customised to fit your needs, so you don’t have to worry. And no matter what, you can be assured that we will work with you and do everything we can to make sure you are comfortable.

If you are interested in and ready to see if you are a candidate for an All on 4 Plus® implant procedure, we would love to look after you.

Here at Dental House Group, we offer flexible payment plans, as well as assisting you to apply for an early release of your super to fund the dental procedure. This means you can get your healthy dream smile faster!

We also offer a complimentary, no obligation All on 4 Plus® consultation.
