What Happens At My Child’s First Dental Check-Up
Hi my name is Fredrika and I am one of the Oral Health Therapist at Dental House.
Yesterday, I was with one of our new patients, Amelia from Sunbury, for her check up and clean. She has a young child, and she asked me, “Fredrika, I’m thinking of bringing my daughter Bella to come and see you, what happens at her first dental checkup”?
This is such a common question with new parents, so I thought I’ll make a quick video sharing with you what I shared with her, just in case you are curious about this as well.
Here at Dental House, we make the first dental appointment and every dental appointment an extremely fun experience for your child!
Depending on your child’s age, the visit may include a full exam, where we will assess the health of the teeth. We will make sure the gums are nice and healthy. We will assess the jaw growth and also if your child may need early orthodontic treatment such as braces.
We may also take some x-rays depending on your child’s age and if we see anything that requires further investigation.
On the day we may do a gentle polishing of the teeth and remove any plaque, tatar and stains.
At the end of the visit, we will also go through important topics such as adult tooth eruptions, correct brushing and flossing techniques, habits such as thumb sucking and pacifier, risk of tooth decay and how to prevent this, as well as nutritional advice for dental and oral health.
It is important for your child to have regular dental check ups so we can manage any problems early and they have a positive experience instead of having a tooth ache and being too anxious to come in.
So if your child hasn’t visited a dentist yet, we would love to look after them. Simply call 1800GENTLE, direct message us on social media, or complete the enquiry form on our website, and our friendly team will be in touch to organise your consultation. See you in the next video.
