  4. How Do I Take Care for My All-On-4 Implants?

Hi, I’m Courtney the All on 4 Treatment Coordinator at Dental House Group and AO4 Implants.

Last Wednesday, we had Michael, a bright patient from Melton, come in for his All-on-4 implant consultation. Michael is a professional in his late forties, and he was really excited to get his new smile.

After he booked in for his treatment, he asked an essential question: “Hey Courtney, how should I maintain these implants to ensure they last as long as possible?”

All-on-4 implants are a significant investment, so it makes sense that you want to look after them so they last as long as possible. That’s a question we hear a lot, so I thought it would make an excellent and interesting topic for today’s video.

\

The key to All-on-4 implant care is consistency. In the first 24 to 48 hours after the procedure, it’s essential to be gentle with your new implants. No intense brushing or flossing is recommended. Using a soft toothbrush and a non-alcoholic mouthwash can help keep the area clean without causing irritation.

Just like natural teeth, you should brush your implants twice a day using a soft-bristle toothbrush. Use a low-abrasive toothpaste to avoid scratching the surface of the implants.

\

After the initial recovery period, your focus should be on daily care and routine dental visits. A water flosser can be a great tool for cleaning around your implants, and specialised implant-care toothbrushes are also available.

Flossing is vital for your implants as it is for natural teeth. So make sure to floss around the abutments to prevent plaque buildup. For tight spaces, consider using interdental brushes.

\

Another crucial part is regular check-ups with your dentist. This is non-negotiable. For at least twice a year, you must see your dentist for professional cleaning and check-ups. This ensures everything is in tip-top shape.

Unlike natural teeth, All-on-4 implants won’t get cavities. However, they can still be affected by gum disease if neglected. So, always follow a strict oral care routine and your dentist’s advice.

\

Finally, if you smoke or consume a lot of staining beverages like coffee or wine, be extra careful, because these habits can discolour your implants over time.
