  4. How Long Can I Expect All-On-4 Implants to Last?

Hi, I’m Dr. Fong, the founder and principal dentist of Dental House Group and AO4 Implants.

Yesterday, I had an All-on-4 consultation with a new patient, Emily from Caroline Springs. Growing up, because of her medication, it resulted in her having very bad teeth, to the point where they are no longer functional. She decided to do full arch replacements with All-on-4 implants for both her upper and lower teeth.

During her consultation, she asked me, “Hey Fong, how many years can I expect them to last?”

Considering an All-on-4 procedure is a significant investment, it is a very valid question. So I’ve decided to make this short video answering this question.

First of all, All-on-4 dental implants involve placing four or more implants in the upper or lower jaw to support a full arch of teeth. This procedure has a high success rate, and many patients love the immediate results.

But how about the long term? Generally speaking, All-on-4 implants have a pretty remarkable lifespan. Many patients find that their implants last 15 to 20 years or even longer. However, this depends on several factors.

Like natural teeth, how long your implants last is highly dependent on how well you take care of them. Factors like your oral hygiene routine, diet, and even your general health can affect how long your All-on-4 implants will last.

Patients with strong clenching habits will not help as well. In some cases, we may recommend anti-clenching injections to help relax these muscles and ensure the long-term success of the All-on-4 implants.

Another example, conditions like uncontrolled diabetes or habits like smoking can negatively impact the longevity of your implants, as smoking can impair healing and contribute to implant failure. As a matter of fact, we don’t have a warranty for patients who are smokers.

Regular brushing, flossing, and check-ups can also extend the lifespan of your implants significantly.

Over time, the prosthetic teeth attached to the implants may wear down or get damaged. The good news is that they are replaceable without affecting the actual implants in your jawbone.

Just like your natural teeth, All-on-4 implants require regular cleaning and check-ups. You should maintain a solid routine of brushing, flossing, and regular visits to your dentist at least every 6 months. Some patients may also require occasional adjustments to the bite alignment, which your dentist will pick up during your regular check-ups.

I hope you now have a better understanding of how long all-on-4 implants last.

If you’re considering the All-on-4 implant procedure, it’s important to factor in not just the upfront investment, but also the long-term commitment to care.
