Multiple Implants at Taylors Lakes, Keilor, & Sydenham
The Knock-On Effect of Missing Teeth
Missing several teeth puts pressure on what remains. Your bite shifts as teeth drift into open spaces, and the bone beneath each gap begins to shrink. At Taylors Lakes Dental House, we plan multi-implant treatment to address each gap and help preserve the structure underneath.
How Multiple Implants Work
You do not always need one implant for every missing tooth. That is one of the most useful things to understand at the start.
For two or more teeth missing in a row, a single implant-supported bridge can often span the gap. Two implants can support three or four crowns, depending on the position and bite forces involved.
For gaps in different parts of the mouth, individual implants are usually the right approach. Each one sits independently and is restored with its own crown.
The right combination depends on where the gaps are, how much bone you have, and how your bite is loaded when you chew. We work this out during the planning stage, not on the day of surgery.
Could Multiple Implants Suit You?
Every mouth is different, but the situations below come up often. If any of them sound familiar, it is worth a proper assessment.
Your Multiple Implant Journey
The exact path varies depending on how many implants you need and whether any preparation work is involved. Here is the general shape.

Comprehensive Consultation
We take dental imaging, review your medical history, and look at every gap individually and as part of the whole mouth. (1 visit, approximately 60 to 90 minutes)

Full Treatment Plan
We map out where each implant goes, how the crowns or bridges will sit on top, what the timeline looks like, and what it will cost. You see the plan in full before anything begins. (Same visit or a follow-up)

Preparation Work
Some patients need bone grafting, a sinus lift, or extractions before placement. When that applies, this stage runs first and is given time to heal properly. (Variable, often 3 to 6 months)

Implant Placement
The implants are placed under local anaesthesia, often in a single appointment. Sedation is available if you would prefer. (1 to 2 visits, approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on the number of implants)

Healing and Integration
The implants bond with the bone over several months. Temporary teeth can be worn during this phase so you are not without something to smile and eat with. (3 to 6 months, with periodic reviews)

Final Restoration
Custom crowns or bridges are made to your bite and shade, then fitted securely to the implants. (2 to 3 visits across 2 to 3 weeks)

Long-Term Care
Regular check-ups, professional cleans, and good home care help keep everything healthy for the long term. (Ongoing, typically every 6 months)
Risks & Recovery
Multiple implants involve more surgical sites than a single implant, so the risks and the recovery picture are worth understanding clearly.
Possible risks include:
- Swelling, bruising, and tenderness across the treated areas
- Bleeding during the first few days of healing
- Infection at one or more sites, which is uncommon with good aftercare
- One or more implants failing to integrate, which is rare but possible
- Nerve or sinus involvement, which is why three-dimensional imaging is part of the plan
- Bone graft complications, where grafting has been part of the treatment
Recovery considerations:
- The first few days involve more rest than a single implant case
- Initial gum healing typically takes one to two weeks
- Bone integration takes several months across all sites
- A soft diet is helpful in the first one to two weeks
- Temporary teeth allow you to function during healing
- Good oral hygiene and regular reviews protect the long-term result

Any questions?

Do I need an implant for every missing tooth?
Not necessarily. For consecutive missing teeth, an implant-supported bridge often replaces three or four teeth using only two implants. For scattered gaps, individual implants are usually the right choice. The plan depends on your specific situation.
Will all the implants be placed in one appointment?
Often yes, but not always. If preparation work such as bone grafting or extractions is needed, those steps run first. Once the area is ready, multiple implants can usually be placed in a single visit.
What do I do for teeth during the healing months?
Temporary teeth are part of the plan. Depending on the case, these may be a removable temporary, a temporary bridge, or a provisional restoration attached to the implants themselves. You are not left with gaps.
