Single Implants at Taylors Lakes, Keilor, & Sydenham

One Tooth, Bigger Implications

Most people focus on the visible gap. The bigger story sits beneath the gum line, where the bone that once anchored the tooth begins to shrink and nearby teeth drift into the empty space. A single implant replaces both the tooth and the root, helping preserve what remains.

How a Single Implant Works

An implant is made of three parts working together as one tooth.

A small titanium post is placed into the jawbone where the root used to sit. Over the following months, the bone grows around it through a natural process called osseointegration, locking it firmly in place.

Once that foundation is solid, a custom crown is fitted on top. The crown is shaped and shaded to match your surrounding teeth, so it blends in rather than stands out.

Suitability depends on a few things, including the amount of bone in the area, the health of your gums, and your overall medical picture. Outcomes vary from patient to patient, which is why we always start with a proper assessment before recommending a path forward.

Could a Single Implant Suit You?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer, but if you recognise yourself in any of the situations below, an implant is worth a conversation.

You Are Living Around a Gap

You have been chewing on one side, hiding the gap in photos, or just learning to live without that tooth. You are ready for a fixed solution that feels like part of you again.

You Want to Avoid Touching Healthy Teeth

A bridge means reshaping the teeth on either side of the gap. If those teeth are still healthy, an implant lets you leave them alone.

Dentures Are Not the Answer

You have considered a partial denture and decided it is not for you. An implant stays in place, day and night, with no removal or adhesives.

Your Single Implant Journey

Timelines vary depending on bone quality and healing, but here is the shape of the process.

Comprehensive Consultation

We sit down, listen, and examine. Diagnostic imaging shows us your bone, your bite, and the surrounding teeth. (1 visit, approximately 45 to 60 minutes)

Your Treatment Plan

We walk you through the recommended approach, the timeline, the cost, and any preparation work such as bone grafting if it is needed. Nothing moves forward until you are comfortable. (Same visit or a follow-up, approximately 30 to 45 minutes)

Implant Placement

The titanium post is placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia. Sedation options are available if you would prefer to be more relaxed during the procedure. (1 visit, approximately 60 to 90 minutes)

Healing and Integration

This is the quiet part of the journey. The bone fuses with the implant over several months. A temporary tooth can often be worn during this time. (3 to 6 months, with periodic reviews)

Crown Fitting

Once the implant is fully integrated, we take digital impressions and have your custom crown made. It is then attached securely to the implant. (2 to 3 visits across 2 to 3 weeks)

Long-Term Care

Implants need the same brushing, flossing, and check-ups as the rest of your teeth. We see you for regular reviews to keep everything healthy. (Ongoing, typically every 6 months)

Risks & Recovery

Implants are surgical, so it is fair to know what to expect.

Possible risks include:

  • Mild swelling, bruising, or tenderness in the days after placement
  • Minor bleeding in the early healing window
  • Infection at the site, which is uncommon with good aftercare
  • Failure of the implant to integrate with the bone in a small number of cases
  • Involvement of nearby nerves or sinuses, which is why planning imaging matters

Recovery considerations:

  • Initial healing generally takes one to two weeks
  • Osseointegration, where the implant fuses with the bone, can take several months
  • A soft diet is often recommended during early healing
  • Regular reviews and consistent oral hygiene are important for long-term outcomes

Any questions?

That is the goal. The crown is custom-shaped and shaded to match your surrounding teeth in size, contour, and colour, designed to blend in rather than stand out.

Sooner is generally better. Bone loss begins quickly after a tooth is lost, and the more bone available at the time of placement, the simpler the procedure tends to be. That said, implants are still very possible months or years later, often with a bone graft.

Bone grafting is a routine option. It rebuilds the volume in the area so the implant has a solid foundation. We will let you know during your assessment whether grafting is likely to be part of your plan.
